what is possible
Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP)
KAP supports change when familiar patterns feel hard to shift. By combining medically prescribed ketamine with psychotherapy, preparation, and integration, this work helps create space for new perspectives and possibilities. Offered via telehealth for clients in Washington, Idaho, and Florida.
You deserve care that already speaks your language. Queer, neurodivergent, kinky and poly‑affirming

Hey… we know. It’s been feeling heavy.
We’ve felt that as well.
This work grew from lived understanding. Our programs were created for complex humans, especially those who live outside dominant norms, including queer, neurodivergent, kinky, and non-monogamous people. Healing was never meant to be one-size-fits-all, because our inner worlds, histories, bodies, and relationships are profoundly different. The ways we move through pain, protection, pleasure, and possibility are deeply personal.
This work is an invitation to reconnect with what is already within you, to gently loosen the survival patterns, expectations, and stories that may not have been built for your kind of mind, body, or relationships, and to find your way home to yourself with greater self-trust and authenticity.
YOU ARE NEVER ALONE
We listen closely and stay attuned to your body’s cues, allowing your experience to guide the care we offer.

My People
I center queer, neurodivergent, kinky, and non‑monogamous clients because I know how hard it is to find a therapist who truly gets it. As a therapist that holds each of these identities myself too, you won’t have to translate your life, defend your relationship structures, or educate me about your gender, pronouns, or dynamics all while you’re trying to heal.
Depression or anxiety that feels stuck
Trauma held in the body or nervous system
Where KAP Can Help
Ketamine-Assisted Therapy can be supportive when you’re carrying experiences that feel heavy, persistent, or hard to reach through talk therapy alone.
Burnout, shutdown, or deep emotional exhaustion
Chronic pain that affects daily life
Big identity shifts (coming out, transitioning, etc)
Grief, loss, or complicated transitions
When You Need Relief That Doesn’t Take Weeks
Ketamine is a legal and safe treatment that has been shown to help with depression, anxiety, PTSD, and the effects of stress and trauma. When used with the support of a trained clinician, it can open space for relief and new possibilities. Unlike some treatments that may take weeks to show effects, many people notice a shift within hours to days.
Your mind can grow new pathways toward balance and ease
Ketamine works by helping the brain form new connections and restore balance to the systems that regulate mood and energy. This process, known as neuroplasticity, allows the brain to heal in ways that can create lasting change.
Lasting Change Through the Neuroplastic Window
After a ketamine session, the brain enters what’s called a neuroplastic window; a period when your brain is especially open to change and growth.
Here’s how it works, in simple terms:
-
Ketamine supports your brain’s communication systems by blocking NMDA receptors and stimulating AMPA receptors.
-
This increases glutamate (often called the brain’s fertilizer), which helps new connections grow.
-
As a result, the brain releases growth factors that repair stress-damaged neurons and strengthen pathways that regulate mood and energy.
What this means for you:
-
Patterns that once felt stuck can become more flexible.
-
Shifts made in therapy are more likely to take root during this window.
-
With preparation and integration, change can become lasting and sustainable long after the program is complete.

Ketamine‑assisted therapy at Courageous You is especially for:
-
Queer and questioning LGBTQIA+ adults navigating depression, anxiety, trauma, or identity‑based stress
-
Neurodivergent folks (ADHD, autism, AuDHD) dealing with burnout, masking, or shame
-
Kinky/BDSM‑identified people wanting a therapist who understands that consent, power exchange, and play are not pathology
-
Non‑monogamous, polyamorous, and relationship‑anarchist humans wanting support that respects the complexity of their important relationships

Alongside ketamine-assisted therapy, I also offer individual psychotherapy, relationship therapy, and Somatic EMDR therapy for my communities when space allows.
We work with both emotional experience and nervous system patterns, recognizing how stress, stigma, and past experiences shape the body as well as the mind.
You deserve therapy that is safe, attuned, and aligned with who you are.

Meet Sarah Wolfer
Founder of Courageous You
I’m a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker with more than 14 years of experience supporting individuals and relationships through trauma, identity exploration, and meaningful change. Much of my work centers people navigating lives outside of traditional scripts, including queer, non-monogamous, neurodivergent, and kink-affirming communities.
Courageous You was created from a simple belief: people deserve therapy that actually understands their lives. My approach is collaborative, curious, and grounded in compassion for the complex ways identity, relationships, and lived experience shape who we are.
My work draws from several approaches, including relational therapy, Somatic EMDR, and ketamine-assisted psychotherapy, allowing us to tailor the process to what best supports your healing and growth.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is ketamine-assisted therapy safe?
When administered in a clinical setting with proper screening and monitoring, ketamine has an excellent safety profile. I use sub-anesthetic doses significantly lower than those used in medical procedures. Every client completes a comprehensive medical and psychological screening with a licensed medical provider to ensure eligibility. I monitor you throughout each session, and we maintain strict safety protocols.
Who is ketamine-assisted psychotherapy a good fit for, and who may not be a candidate?
Ketamine-assisted psychotherapy (KAP) may be helpful for people experiencing depression, trauma, anxiety, emotional burnout, or feeling stuck in patterns that have been difficult to shift through traditional approaches alone. It can also support deeper self-exploration and personal growth when paired with thoughtful preparation and integration therapy.
At the same time, ketamine therapy is not appropriate for everyone. Certain medical or psychiatric conditions may make it unsafe, including uncontrolled high blood pressure, some cardiovascular conditions, active psychosis or mania, severe liver disease, or specific medications that may interact with ketamine. Substance use concerns may also require additional screening and evaluation.
Before beginning treatment, every client completes a consultation and medical evaluation where we review mental health history, medical background, current medications, and treatment goals. This process helps determine whether ketamine-assisted therapy is a safe and appropriate option.
If you’re unsure whether KAP might be appropriate for you, the best next step is scheduling a free consultation where we can explore your situation together and determine what approach may best support your goals.
How is your approach different from ketamine infusions at a clinic?
Ketamine infusions focus primarily on the biochemical effect of the medicine. My approach is psychotherapy-centered: we use ketamine as a tool within a therapeutic relationship, with extensive preparation, active support during/after sessions, and deep integration afterward. This combination produces more profound and lasting change than medicine alone.
What are your qualifications for providing KAP?
I’m a licensed independent clinical social worker (LICSW) with 14 years of experience as a therapist, and I’ve been offering ketamine-assisted therapy since 2022. My training includes a year-long program through the Integrative Psychiatry Institute that covered ketamine, psilocybin, and MDMA-assisted psychotherapy, along with training programs I have taken in Somatic EMDR therapy, the Gottman Method (Levels 1 & 2), Emotionally Focused Therapy, and TF-CBT. I’m always pursuing additional trainings to deepen my skills and stay current in this evolving field.
I also bring many years of personal experience with psychedelics, which informs my empathy and understanding of these medicines. I work closely with Better U, which handles all medical screening and prescription management, allowing me to focus entirely on the therapeutic process. I love this work and feel honored to guide clients through such profound healing.
Do you offer any therapy without ketamine?
Yes, I maintain limited availability for traditional psychotherapy, relationship therapy, and Somatic EMDR therapy specifically for clients who are queer, non-monogamous, neurodivergent, or kinky. These sessions are offered on a case-by-case basis when KAP isn't appropriate or desired. This ensures these communities retain access to affirming, specialized care.
Do you accept insurance?
I do not bill insurance directly. However, I provide superbills that you can submit to your insurance provider for potential out-of-network reimbursement for psychotherapy sessions, including preparation and integration sessions when participating in ketamine-assisted therapy.
Ketamine medication and medical services are typically not covered by insurance, but therapy sessions may be eligible for partial reimbursement depending on your plan.
To help make the reimbursement process easier, Courageous You partners with Thrizer, a service that helps clients check their out-of-network benefits and submit claims for reimbursement.
You can use the benefits check tool here to see whether you may be eligible for reimbursement before starting therapy.
I also recommend contacting your insurance provider directly to better understand your out-of-network mental health benefits.
Who do you typically work with?
Courageous You was created to support people whose identities and relationships are often misunderstood in traditional therapy settings. Many of my clients are queer, LGBTQIA+, non-monogamous, kinky, or neurodivergent individuals and relationships seeking therapy that truly understands their experiences.
At the same time, you do not need to identify with any of these communities to work with me. I also work with people from many different backgrounds and relationship structures who are simply looking for thoughtful, affirming, and compassionate therapy.
What matters most is a shared commitment to curiosity, self-exploration, and meaningful change.
How soon can I start?
The best place to begin is by scheduling a free consultation. This is a relaxed conversation where we can explore what you’re hoping to work on, review your history and goals, and talk through what type of support may be most helpful for you.
Some clients come in specifically interested in ketamine-assisted psychotherapy programs such as the Comprehensive KAP Program, the Catalyst KAP Program, or the Somatic EMDR KAP Program, which integrates ketamine therapy with body-based trauma processing and EMDR-informed work.
Others may be looking for Preparation & Integration support if they are participating in ketamine therapy through another clinic or provider.
Some clients may also benefit from Somatic EMDR therapy, individual psychotherapy, or relationship-focused therapy without ketamine.
During the consultation, we’ll talk through the different options and determine which approach or program feels most aligned with your needs. If ketamine-assisted therapy seems like a good fit, the next steps include a medical screening and preparation sessions before any medicine experiences take place.
If you’re not sure where to start, that’s completely okay. The consultation is simply a space to ask questions, explore possibilities, and decide what path forward feels right for you.
